God Chose You First

God Chose You First

You did not stumble into grace. You were pursued into it.

We often tell the Christian story backwards.

We say: "I found God." As if we were the initiators. As if heaven was passive until we showed up with our search engine and our sincerity.

Scripture tells a different story:

"You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit." — John 15:16

Before your first prayer, before your first worship song, before your first Bible study — He chose you.

Why This Order Matters

If you chose God first, your faith rests on the quality of your decision-making. And let's be honest: your decision-making has had some rough seasons.

If God chose you first, your faith rests on the quality of His decision-making.

That's a much sturdier foundation.

"But I Don't Feel Chosen"

Feelings are real. They are not always reporters of truth.

Many people in hard seasons — depression, grief, doubt, burnout — feel forgotten. Feelings of abandonment are painful. They are not the final word.

God's choosing is not demonstrated by your current emotional weather. It is demonstrated by the cross, the empty tomb, and the seat He prepared for you in Christ.

You may feel like an afterthought. You are not.

Chosen Does Not Mean Comfortable

Being chosen is not the same as being spared.

  • Israel was chosen — and walked through wilderness.
  • David was chosen — and ran from Saul for years.
  • Mary was chosen — and watched her Son die.
  • Paul was chosen — and suffered shipwrecks, beatings, and betrayal.

Chosen means entrusted, not indulged.

God chose you for fruitfulness, not for a frictionless life.

Living From Being Chosen

Instead of: "I hope God still wants me." Try: "God chose me. I am responding today."

Instead of: "I need to earn my place." Try: "My place was given. I will steward it."

Instead of: "I'm not enough for this calling." Try: "He knew my limits when He chose me. He factors them in."

A Daily Declaration

Father, before I woke up this morning, You had already chosen me. I did not audition for Your love. I received it. Today I live as a chosen person — not striving for acceptance, but operating from it. Send me. Strengthen me. I am Yours. Amen.
