Testimony Writing Guide & Template
Turn what God has done into a story someone else can hold onto.
Why testimonies matter: Revelation 12:11 — "They overcame by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony." Your story is not vanity. It is ammunition for someone else's hope.
Length options:
- Micro (social post): 100–200 words
- Short (small group): 3–5 minutes spoken
- Full (blog/article): 600–1000 words
Part 1: Before You Write
Guidelines
- Be honest — People connect with struggle, not polish.
- Be specific — "God healed me" is less powerful than naming the moment.
- Give God the credit — You're the jar of clay, not the treasure.
- Protect others — Change names, ask permission, don't expose wounds that aren't yours to share.
- End with hope — Not "everything's perfect" — but "God is faithful."
What to avoid
- Gossip disguised as testimony
- Trauma-dumping without purpose
- Comparison ("God did more for me than for you")
- Theological debates in the middle of a story
Part 2: Story Structure (Before → During → After)
BEFORE — The struggle
- What was life like before God met you in this?
- What were you believing about yourself, God, or the world?
- What was the lowest moment?
DURING — The turning point
- What happened? (Event, person, scripture, conviction, healing, provision)
- What did you do? (Prayer, confession, obedience, community)
- Where did you sense God?
AFTER — The fruit
- What changed? (Internal first, then external)
- What's still in process? (Honesty builds trust)
- What would you tell someone in your "before"?
